Thanks for Cumin (and Sorry for the Bad Spice Related Pun)

Our latest fundraiser could not have gone better. After socializing over small bites and Sri Lankan Beer, the around 50 attendees were directed to a beautifully decorated dining area, complete with banana leaf centerpieces on each table. Skiz’s demo, which took place between courses, drew many people from their seats to the front of the room (most likely due to the fantastic aroma of the chicken curry he prepared while discussing Sri Lankan cuisine and spices).

When the family style main course was served, everyone in attendance was able to fully appreciate the hard work that Skiz and the Stratford culinary students put in all day long. Every single dish was not only beautifully plated, but also absolutely delicious (seriously, it was THAT good). Even more astounding was the fact that none of the students had ever cooked Sri Lankan food before!

Towards the end of the evening, Skiz made a point to thank the students and staff for all their hard work and express just how impressed he was. At the request of one of the guests, the students introduced themselves and gave a little background as to why they decided to go to culinary school. It was a great way to end a great meal.

Thank you to Skiz, Chefs Jordan Lichman and Ricardo Willis, the students at the Stratford Culinary Department, and everyone who attended. Because of all of you, we raised $2,723 that will go directly to help the primary school in Bentota, Sri Lanka!
